San Francisco Street Art
Nikki Freyermuth, Samantha Newell and Riya Varma
San Francisco is one of the most culturally rich cities in California. It is the birthplace of many major movements, and home to many innovative minds. This mixture of technology and art creates a buzz of excitement unique to San Francisco. Yet it’s the colors, textures and patterns that give the city its personality.
People look to San Francisco as an inspiration for art. It is seen as one of the most artistic cities in America. This emphasis on art is one of the reasons why artists come from around the world to paint on the walls of San Francisco. Street art can be seen merely by walking down the street, as it wraps the city in color and gives it a unique character.
Behind the Lens: Cathy Rong
Nikki Freyermuth and Pauline Na
Standing on a thin section of concrete separating screaming fans from the main stage, press pass dangling around her neck, Palo Alto High School junior Cathy Rong vigorously clicks away with her Nikon d5100 in hot pursuit of the perfect shot.
If you had asked Rong where she would be on September 7, 2012 a year ago, she would not have had the faintest idea. Taking photos in the media pit at a Linkin Park with Incubus concert would have been the farthest thing from her mind because at that time photography was nothing more than a hobby to her.

Remi and Chloe
Nikki Freyermuth and Riya Varma
While Palo Alto High School juniors Remi Wolf and Chloe Zilliac didn’t exactly mean to form a band, they have had a very significant impact on Paly’s student band scene in recent years. With a Facebook page, YouTube channel and one hit single on iTunes, Remi & Chloe are well on their way to fame.

James Bond
Eric Wang
Who doesn’t know the name: Bond, James Bond. He’s saved the world 23 times, seduced dozens of babes and disposed of even more villainous henchman. This year’s entry, Skyfall, marks the 50th anniversary of the first Bond appearance, Dr. No. That’s a lot of shaken martinis, cool gadgets and cheesy action sequences. Here’s a timeline of Bond through the years.
